GamesBeat and Subspace team up on Metaverse Forum

Join Gaming Leaders, Alongside GamesBeat and Facebook Gaming, for Their 2nd Annual GamesBeat & Facebook Gaming Summit | GamesBeat: Into the Metaverse 2 from January 25-27, 2022. Learn more about the event.

Today, we are on the verge of a technological revolution bigger than the Internet. How do you counter the grim predictions of dystopian futures created by the metaverse in novels like Snow Crash and Ready Player One and movies like The Matrix? We do this by working together to chart a visionary path for a future that can improve humanity. In 2022, GamesBeat and Subspace will launch a Metaverse Forum that will host conversations about how to build the Metaverse the right way.

We’ve already started hosting private roundtables with CEOs, executives, and investors at the forefront of the metaverse, and we hope to continue this with more thought leadership sessions in the future. Our first event in this series will be a private panel discussion on January 26 during our GamesBeat Summit: Into the Metaverse 2 online event. We’ll also talk about it during a public panel on January 27 during the event.

Subspace is an interesting partner because it’s building technology that makes a real-time metaverse possible. It has created a fast, stable, highly available, and secure network for today’s real-time interactive applications and tomorrow’s metaverse. From Subspace’s perspective, the metaverse is the infrastructure.

The metaverse is not an application that runs on top of a service. It’s not a world, and it’s not a game. It’s the next iteration of the internet that supports real-time experiences. Approximately 400 million people rely on Subspace technology today.

We will host a combination of public webinars and private roundtables in the new year. Our informal group met last year for a private dialogue about the future of computing and the next generation of the Internet.

This forum is not a formal consortium to set standards, but it is a parallel effort to see that industry builds the components of our future world with the right thinking. Each participant should bring a unique perspective, ability, and asset to the table.

Past attendees have included executive thought leaders from some of the biggest companies in the gaming industry. But of course, the Metaverse isn’t just about games.

Other types of businesses, from brands to different forms of entertainment, will also be needed to bring everyone into a shared space. We don’t have all the details yet as we consider this forum to be part of our GamesBeat community, where members have their say.

We plan our discussions and plan to talk about issues that might help or hinder the metaverse, such as diversity and inclusion, toxicity, ethical considerations, openness, decentralization, geographic differences, game worlds, technology infrastructure and how to make it ubiquitous. Many of these topics will be covered publicly at our Metaverse conference.

If you’re a visionary who wants to help shape the metaverse, contact us today. I am available via DM on Twitter via deantak.

GamesBeat’s credo when covering the gaming industry is “where passion meets business”. What does it mean? We want to tell you how much the news means to you, not only as a decision maker in a game studio, but also as a game fan. Whether you read our articles, listen to our podcasts, or watch our videos, GamesBeat will help you learn about and engage with the industry.

How will you do this? Membership includes access to:

  • Newsletters, such as DeanBeat
  • The wonderful, educational and fun speakers at our events
  • Networking opportunities
  • Special members-only interviews, discussions and “open office” events with GamesBeat staff
  • Chat with community members, GamesBeat staff, and other guests in our Discord
  • And maybe even a fun prize or two
  • Presentations to like-minded parties
