Patents at a tipping point? OxViews Intellectual Property and Competition Forum.

London, UK – 06/15/2022 (PR Distribution™) –

OxViews Intellectual Property and Competition Forum.

Munich, June 21 – 22, 2022, 8:30 a.m. – 6:30 p.m. CETS

Mixing standards and patents is a paradox in itself. While patents aim to exclude, standards aim to do just the opposite. The FRAND (fair, reasonable and non-discriminatory) Commitment aims to reconcile the two.

But how can this work in practice?

This conference brings together key players, players, and players in the high-tech industry to discuss the future of FRAND and standards-essential patents. The subject is far from hypothetical. As 5G gains momentum, governments, courts and practitioners around the world are seeking to master standards-based patent management. The recent consultation by the US Government’s Department of Justice, the UK Intellectual Property Office’s public inquiry into FRAND and a similar consultation undertaken by the European Commission suggest that the final word on this subject has not yet been said yet.

Equally important is the Unified Patent Court, which will provide the European Union with an entirely new framework for pan-European patent enforcement and set a global precedent for cross-border patent enforcement. Its impact on patent litigation strategy remains to be seen and will also be discussed at the conference.

The third key theme of the conference will be the role of patent aggregators, patent pools and patent platforms. What would it take to establish trust in these entities?

Sates, Professor Roya Ghafele, Founder of OxViews: “The incredible list of contributors to the conference includes Fortune 100 companies, world-renowned law firms, academics and judges. Undoubtedly, the event offers a unique insight into the future of patent law and competition globally. As Europe is about to launch a pan-European Patent Court, as the British examine their country’s position on standard essential patents, and as the European Union also seeks to master the role of competition law in the dealing with standard essential patents, this event is well placed to provide a forum for debate on current trends and future prospects in the high-tech space. ‘

The conference is sponsored by Allen & Overy, Gruenecker Patent Attorneys and Attorneys at Law, Eisenfuehr Speiser, Meissner Bolte, Vossius, Bristows, Kirkland & Ellis, Taylor Wessing, Acces Advance, CMS, Finnegan, Henderson, Farabow, Garrett & Dunner and OxFirst . Additional support is offered by institutions such as FSA, Trevisan & Cuonzo, Sheppard Mullin, Frand Avenue, Continental, ZTE, Ernst & Young, Bird & Bird.
